Deep tissue and myofascial massage in Batumi: what it is and who it suits
Fascia in plain words, how deep tissue massage differs from classic massage, what you will feel, and when it is better to wait.

After a long flight, a week at the computer or a hard workout, your body can sometimes feel as though it has been pulled tight. A light relaxing massage may not be enough at moments like that. A deep tissue massage in Batumi at Serenity studio is slower, firmer work on the muscles and fascia, chosen when you want your body to feel mobile and free again.
Here it is in plain words: what fascia is, how myofascial massage differs from classic massage, what you will feel in a session and when it is better to postpone.
What fascia is, in plain words
Fascia is a thin but strong layer of connective tissue. It wraps individual muscles and groups of muscles and runs through the whole body, connecting it into one whole. The easiest way to picture it is as an elastic film or mesh that holds shape and lets muscles glide past one another.
When we sit in one position for a long time, move too little or, on the contrary, load our muscles heavily, this tissue can become less mobile. That is where the familiar stiffness comes from: it is hard to turn your neck, your back feels tight, and your body never quite seems to straighten out.
Myofascial and deep tissue: the idea
Myofascial massage works not only with the muscles ("myo" means muscle) but also with the fascia around them. The therapist works slowly, with sustained gentle pressure, giving the tissue time to relax.
Deep tissue massage targets the deeper layers of muscle. The pressure is firmer and the pace slower than in classic massage.
At our studio, both approaches are combined in one service. What matters most is not force but attention and time: Pavel stays with areas of tension and does not rush.
How it differs from classic massage
- Pace. Classic massage is more rhythmic, with gliding strokes across the whole body. Deep tissue is slow, with pauses on tight spots.
- Depth. In deep tissue massage the pressure is firmer and the work reaches deeper layers.
- Purpose. Classic massage is about overall relaxation and rest. Deep tissue helps specific tense areas let go.
- Feel. Classic massage usually feels pleasant and soft; deep tissue feels dense and intense, but not painful.
If you simply want to relax, classic massage may suit you better.
How the session feels
Firm, but without sharp pain
The pressure is noticeable, and in the tightest places you may feel some mild discomfort — that "good hurt" when you realise a muscle has been holding on. But there is no need to put up with sharp pain. Tell Pavel if the pressure is too strong: it can always be reduced.
After the session
People often feel warmth, lightness and easier movement. Some find that the worked areas are a little tender the next day, rather like after a good workout. Drink water, avoid intense exercise that day and let your body rest.
Who deep tissue massage in Batumi suits
People usually choose this session:
- after training — running, the gym, swimming, long hikes;
- with desk jobs — when by the end of the week the back, neck and shoulders seem to set like concrete;
- after a flight — a few hours in an aeroplane seat are felt in the body;
- after a long drive;
- if you like firm massage and find gentle techniques too light.
If this is your first deep tissue massage, say so: Pavel will start more gently and increase the pressure gradually.
When it is better to postpone
Deep work puts a load on the tissues, so in some situations it is better to reschedule or choose a gentler option:
- a fever, a cold or feeling unwell;
- fresh injuries such as bruises, sprains or recent surgery;
- acute inflammation in the massage area;
- skin problems where the therapist will be working, including sunburn;
- a flare-up of a chronic condition.
If you are pregnant, have back pain or a diagnosed spinal condition such as a herniated disc, check with your doctor first. Once Pavel knows about your condition, he will choose a gentle technique or suggest postponing. Read more in our article on massage contraindications.
Prices and session length
Myofascial and deep tissue massage at Serenity:
- 60 minutes — 100 GEL;
- 90 minutes — 135 GEL.
Because deep work needs an unhurried pace, 90 minutes often makes sense: there is time both for focused work on tense areas and for a calm end to the session. If you come regularly, a package is better value: 5 sessions with 10% off, 10 sessions with 20% off.
You can book online on the website, by phone at +995 598 56 02 42 or on WhatsApp, at least 2 hours before the session.
If your body is asking for more than light relaxation, come to Griboedov St 28. Tell Pavel what is bothering you, and he will find the pace and pressure that feel right for you.
